Nearing completion of PhD in Machine Learning and Computer Vision at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
I am nearing completion of my PhD in Machine Learning at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay. I specialize in computer vision and visual data subset selection & summarization problems with focus on bringing real-world impact. With about 17 years of experience in diverse roles spanning software development, research & consultancy, leading teams, customer interactions, engaging with Government organizations, mentoring and teaching, I bring a unique blend of understanding the big picture and real-world requirements on one hand and technical rigour with intuitive insights on the other. I am passionate about demystifying complex concepts and like to apply best design, engineering and coding practices to software development with an eye for details and a knack for perfection.
I graduated from IIT Kharagpur in 2004 with BTech (Hons) in CSE and an Institute Silver Medal for topping the class. Prior to joining the PhD programme in 2016, from 2004-2010 I worked in Oracle India Pvt Ltd (product design and development in area of real-time collaboration) and from 2010-2012 in BMC Software (R&D for incubation with cloud first and mobile first strategy). My attraction for machine learning and data science led me to go back to academia to explore them further and thus I joined Department of Computer Engineering at Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune as a faculty. To gain more depth and insights in machine learning and computer vision, I joined the PhD programme at Department of COmputer Science and Engineering, IIT Bombay in July 2016. You can find my detailed resume here.
Besides my profession, I am actively involved in social welfare activities. I am serving as the chairman of the Vedic Oasis for Inspiration, Culture and Education (VOICE), a voluntary youth forum with a motto of “Rekindling Wisdom, Reviving Love”. In particular, I volunteer my time for spreading the timeless scientific wisdom present in the ancient texts like the Bhagavad Gita, the Quran, the Bible and in other such ancient and contemporary classics, making them relevant to the modern life. I myself have been a student and a practitioner of Bhagavad Gita for over two decades now. I have been widely appreciated for my motivational talks on personality development, lifestyle management and leadership. Over the years I have been invited to deliver several such seminars to employees in various corporates and students in various premiere institutes of the country.
